H.I.S. Experience Japan, a Tokyo based experiential travel company specializing in cultural experiences and tour packages for international visitors, will run a special tour to the Kichijoji Gesso Temple Takigi Noh performance on October 17.
Takigi Noh is the traditional Japanese stage art of Noh, performed on an outside stage in the evening by the light of a bonfire. Originating in the 14th century, Noh is the most ancient form of musical theatre in Japan and has been designated a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage.
The Noh tour begins in Tokyo with a visit to the National Noh Theatre where participants can view a special exhibition of Noh masks and costumes. Participants will then travel to Kichijoji for a special Noh lecture followed by the Takigi Noh performance at Gesso Temple. The performances on the Noh program are ‘Kagetsu’: a story about a father who finds his missing son by chance; and ‘Nomori’: a story about a devil that has a mysterious mirror. Kyogen (spoken comic drama) and Japanese dancing are also included on the program.
The tour costs 15,800 yen and can be booked online (http://hisexperience.jp/) or by calling H.I.S. Experience Japan+81-3-5322-8988.
